I did a compare of the .sql files that ship with RC2 and RC3.<br><br>My compare showed that the files are identical, so you should be able to install RC3 and point it at your RC2 database or a copy thereof.<br><br>As for moving the customizations, you will likely have to use a Compare tool, and try to do a diff across your existing directory structure and the RC3 directory.<br><br>K<br>
The diff I did showed no difference in the .sql files between the two versions.
You should be able to just install RC3 and point it at your RC2 database.
You'll probably need a sophisticated diff tool to be able to extract your mods from the RC2 store and move them to the RC3 one. Actually, you might want to diff your RC2 store against a clean install of RC2, so that you don't catch the bug fixes made in RC3 as part of your diff. Good Luck.

thanks for the reply but the basic message is i'm screwed unless i want to spend hours and hours comparing files!
how serious are the security problems with rc2? any idea how long before i would need to go through all this again with the final vesion? am i safe to wait?
many thanks
i'm rapidly losing faith in oscmax. can someone please tell me if i am risking my whole livelihood by running rc2? should i shut down my shop NOW and spend all day fixing it or am I safe to run rc2 until the gold release?
please please please help. without basic information like this you can't expect anyone to use this software in a real business environment and now i am seriously concerned i have made a big mistake doing so!
please convince me i am wrong.
RC2 is fine. It is being used by thousands of sites already. What basic info? Is it safe? Yes it is safe?
Why would you shut down anything? To update is simple, really. Make a copy of your site, with a copy of the db too. Then overwrite the copied files with the RC3 files, except for the configure.php files. Then test. If all looks good, simply backup your original shop and replace it with the new one you just tested...
If not, check to see where the problems are.
This is release candidate software - in development, so if you are not skilled in doing these things manually, wait until the final release is out before using it.
Thanks for your reply Michael. My site is heavily customised so it is going to take quite a lot of work to upgrade which is why I would rather not do it for rc3 and then for the final release as well. My concern was RC3 fixes a lot of bugs in RC2 - if they are minor ones that's fine, but I was worried they may be severe bugs which could compromise the shop. If not, that's great!
thanks
Hi
Have I got it right that to upgrade a stock Max 2 to the new 3 all I have to do is..
"Make a copy of your site, with a copy of the db too. Then overwrite the copied files with the RC3 files, except for the configure.php files. Then test. If all looks good, simply backup your original shop and replace it with the new one you just tested..."
Seems like it's too easy. I have been struggling with php5 problems in my v2 site and if I get it right, doing this should save the trouble trying to fix the current site.
Alsop so many others are looking for upgrades when doing this is actually upgrading the site.
I do understand that any cosmetic changes would have to be redone to make it like my original site.
Is my assumption correct?

Hi,
You can grab the RC3 patch download to simply update the changed files in your RC2 shop...
http://oscdox.com/index.php?name=Dow...tit&lid=52
I uploaded and replaced the old RC2 files with the RC3 files. Now I get a 500 - Internal Server error message. Any suggestions?
