    Default Category Picture quality

It's been a while since I added a new category and product to my store. I'm using an existing category image which has always worked great. I created a new category and browsed to the existing image and updated. When I look at the category image it is trashed (blocky and unrecognizable). I tried several other files with the same results. I then tried creating a product and used the same file that appeared trashed in the category and the image is fine. So, I have an image problem with creating categories but not when creating products.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Specific 'max version? I'll assume that you're using jpeg images.
Are you sure that you started from an original image, and not one that has already been resized/compressed?

In admin, change Subcategory image phpThumb compression rate 75 to perhaps 82; I wouldn't go any higher.

I actually created a new category and pointed to a perfectly good image file that I used and still do for another category. I do not think it's an image file issue.

    So part II is invisible/irrelevant?
Additionally do you have ImageMagick loaded on the server? Are you uploading a sensible sized image ie. not mega bytes?

    Attach the pic, for test/analysis?

Yes, latest version of OSCMax. For the "Subcategory image phpThumb compression rate 75 to perhaps 82" I could not find that setting. I found Configuration/Images/Images/Subcategory Image Width. It's in pixels was already at 80. I do not have image magic on the server. I host it myself. File attached.

Strange, I have it in a number of live client 2.5.4 sites.

That image is already small, in terms of kbytes and 116px × 90px, so not large to begin with. Personally, I'd resize locally using Gimp to match your 80 pixel dimension, then upload directly to catalog/images/categories.

This setting is in Admin/Configuration/Images/Images and then about 2/3 of the way down the page...
