Default Customer can't reopen shopping cart if incomplete checkout

Is there some sort of setting to allow customers to reopen a shopping cart? The situation is if the customer tries to complete the transaction to PayPal but PayPal has a problem (say with the address format) and bounces the customer back to the catalog the order is treated as closed and the customer can't try to fix the address and deal with the incomplete checkout.
So what I get every now and then (like today) is an order shows up twice for the same customer, they only wanted one of the two orders, but had to open a new shopping cart because of problems with PayPal. the order shows differently on the admin side "Preparing (PayPal IPN)" instead of the normal "Processing (PayPal complete)".
    Thanks!

Unfortunately no. When the customer leaves the site for paypal, the cart has to be cleared, as far as osCmax is concerned the order is completed. That is why we have multiple order status settings for paypal - the backend deals with the paypal updates.

To avoid it completely, paypal wpp is the way to go.

I have never set up nor used the PayPal Website Payments module (PayPal WPP I assume), I see that most settings are the same as the Credit/Debit Card (PayPal) which is what I've been using all along. Are there any tricks to running that before I switch from Credit/Debit to WPP I should be aware of?

Should I use Encrypted Web Payments? My site is fully SSL compliant.

Also, this is revision 1.0, is that the most recent version?

Sorry to ask these questions, I know I should do the research, but very busy with business things and hoping the answer is obvious...

    Thanks!
