    Default Pages are blank

    Hi All

An old client contacted me yesterday about their oscmax website that I built back in 2012.

The index page loads but anything after that appears blank, including the admin pages.

He has not made any changes.

I have checked the version of php running on the server as this is something I remember being an issue years ago but to no avail.

    Website: http://betamotor.com.au/betaenduro/

Can anyone please advise where I start troubleshooting? The host has checked error logs and come up blank.

    Thanks

So it turns out the language file is not being read correctly.

If you add ?lanaguage=english to the URL it temporarily fixes the issue.

    This is the error message

Fatal error: require(): Failed opening required 'includes/languages//core.php' (include_path='.:/opt/php54/lib/php') in /home1/beta/public_html/betaenduro/includes/application_top.php on line 312

I have logged into admin and checked english is the default language but it hasnt made a difference.

Items are also now not showing the price and some checkout options are breaking.

Ah, yes, a few of us have run into this problem. I know I wrote about it a year or two ago, but don't hae the time to look it up right now. Sorry. Do a search for 'blank page' or 'language' and posts should show up on this problem.
I should keep better notes, but I tend to use my posts here (on the forum) as my notes and at least then others can learn from my mistakes!
Ah, here is one link (I'll add a couple more as I find them) on this problem:
    http://www.oscmax.com/forums/bugs-and-problems/32479-upgraded-php-5-4-now-having-problems.html?highlight=%3Flanguage%3Den

another post that goes into a similar problem and solution:

My question to you (Original Poster) is do you have the error messages turned on? What are you getting? Try setting up the web site on local host and reproduce the environment - their host likely updated to a newer version of PHP then was originally set. Check with the site host if you can emulate the previous version of PHP for the site until you resolve the issue.

For example - I am using pair.net and when they updated to php 5.6 they sent out this bit in the email notice:

If you would like to continue running PHP 5.3 after our PHP upgrade, you may do so by running PHP as a CGI. You can find instructions on how to run PHP as a CGI here: (some link that is no longer valid)

Turns out it was the version of PHP running.
That was the first thing I tested but didnt resolve the issue first time around.

A problem is developing with older versions of PHP support is fading away! PHP 5.4 and earlier versions are all past their best before dates and code should be upgraded.
    http://php.net/eol.php
    Even 5.5 support ends on July 10th, 2016. http://php.net/supported-versions.php
Time to bring your version of osCmax to PHP Version 5.6 at least! I've been testing mine on localhost and it works just fine...now to find my notes about what I did to get there!
