Not sending Order notification emails to another email address 2.5.2 vs 2.0.25

Before switching from 2.0.25 to 2.5.2 the system would send a notification email to my parts guy whenever a sale was completed - now, since switching to 2.5.2 this no longer happens. Have gone through Admin extensively looking for any settings that would seem to apply, but no joy. One would expect to find this under admin/Configuration/General Settings/My Store/ - however setting "Send Extra Order Emails To" and/or "Send Extra Order Emails To" to the email address I want these Orders Completed sent does not work as expected.

The extra order email works fine on my store ... so I suspect you may have the same issue as I found on our server setup.

Do you have your website hosted on the same domain as your email?

For example:

Your webspace is hosted on aabox.com under www.yourdomain.com
Your email is on BT under email@yourdomain.com

If so then you need to make sure that your MX settings are correct.

Go to cpanel on your host -> Mail -> MX Entry -> Remote Mail Exchanger

My administration setup does not use cpanel. Not even sure if Pair.com (My web host) has cPanel at all...(will ask tech support). So I appear to have no access to the MX settings...

However this feature worked correctly in 2.0.25 and stopped when I went to 2.5.2 - with no other changes to the web site that I recall.

The current setting is :

Send Extra Order Emails To Akhtar<parts@flippers.xxx>, John<pinball@telus.xxx>

Just looking closer and missed that the notification is actually coming from PayPal - no sales notification actually comes from the web site.

I do get Sales: Enquiry from xxx emails just fine from the site, so the email server should be working correctly.

Went to the osCommerce site (search) and found this thread which (in 2010) was talking about the exact same issue...solutions are suggested there however people still seem to be having trouble there as well. I shall try the suggestions from near the bottom of the first page and report back tomorrow when I have had a chance to implement them.

If you want to test if your server is blocking emails from another server with the same name then go to your admin panel login page and click the forgottten password link ... if it doesn't send it through to you then I think you may have found your issue.

By the way - make sure you do this on a secondary admin account because it will reset your password (and if this is the problem) you will not get the email with the new one! So set up a dummy admin account and request the password.

Setting up dummy email account works as expected. System sent the new admin person (different email than any other used so far) their welcome note, password, etc. Resetting the password also worked.

So, I think the problem is not with my web hosting. Unless one of the .htaccess commands is interferring...

Unfortunately the only way to test is to wait for someone to make an order, however - in the meantime - I have exchanged 2.5.2 version of checkout_process.php with the one from 2.0.25 to see what happens when a customer makes an order. I don't use the One Page Checkout feature and as as far as I can tell all of the differences between the two versions of checkout_process.php are the One Page Checkout I think that is a safe test...

Oh, and I could run the test through the PayPal sandbox, just a bit busy with other things right now. Will try that test tomorrow if no real customers make any orders.

I think I found the problem. It was (apparently) buried in .htaccess - at the bottom I had added the following lines as additional protection:

#limit access to checkout_process.php to only authorized referring domains

but had commented out the SetEnvIf Referer "^http://www\.flippers\.com" auth_referral

I was also getting a 404 (Forbidden error) with that commented out for the checkout_success.php when doing the test - so enabled that line and now it seems to work correctly.

Will check over the next few orders to make sure all is well. And that the site is still secure with that SetEnvIf Referer adjustment.

I do have SSL on flippers, so needed that, and as flippers is the root it should be local.

I have a similar or possibly the same problem:

Emails to customers all go through, and *some* emails to admin go through, but new order received email do not.

Admin side:
New company account created - YES
Admin password reset - YES
New order - NO

Customer Side
Contact us - YES
Order placed - YES
Order updates - YES

This is a new site setup on 2.5.2
