View Full Version : How to charge free shipping to US and add fee to everyone else

Hello. I am currently running v2.5.2. I have a stock install and have not changed modified files too much besides what I can change thru the admin panel. What I am trying to do is have free shipping for all US address' including Puerto Rico etc.. and charge a flat rate for all other countries shipped. I have thought of going to zone shipping method but then, as I understand it, I would have to set up all the zones with rates. I know there must be an easier way to do this. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Yes you need to setup a USA Zone, with USA in it (plus Puerto Rico?) and add all the appropriate States. Then associate whatever Shipping method to that particular Zone. You may also like to setup a World Zone with appropriate countries that you will sell to.
Everyone has their own places that they wish to sell to, so there is no 'universal' approach. Why would someone selling in Europe wish to specify individual U.S. States? (Rhetorical)

Thank you for your response. I will use that approach and hopefully solve my dilemma. I thought possibly I could set a rate for country of origin and a separate rate for any other country.

Maybe you can with Fedex/USPS/UPS Shipping Modules - your US-brethren might be able to advise. :)

the way you described is the method of choice..
I set a
SHP:US with all the US states and yes Puerto Rico.. dumb thing is osc & oscmax treat PR as a completely different entity than our own post office does.. but thats another rant..
SHP:UK for unique rates to those who might live in that place over there on the other side of the pond...
SHP:CA for Canadian buyers
SHP:Overseas with the remainder of the countries..

yea its a pain but its once and done
