OK, so I posted this thread (http://www.oscmax.com/forums/usps/22247-why-usps-shipping-so-fd-up.html) back in March, not one single answer so I'm going to try a new approach here.
I have a client who has a oscmax site that I have beat most of the bugs out of but one recurring issue is driving them crazy. Randomly (once or twice a week) when someone places an order the shipping gets messed up, it charges them $1, $2, $3 etc and looks like this on the invoice:
Sub-Total: $45.00
1: $1.00
Total: $46.00
instead of how it should look, like this:
Sub-Total: $45.00
United States Postal Service (1 x 1.1lbs) (First-Class Mail International Package): $7.94
Total: $52.94
I really really really hope someone can shed some light on this OR point me in the direction of a USPS shipping module that actually works :)
thanks in advance to anyone that replies here.

Hi Jesse,
First up, USPS is not one I use (being from the UK) so I can not help with specifics ... but the '1:' looks supiciously like a case statement that has failed somewhere.
I am sure I read another similar post recently ... have you searched the osCommerce mod page for this shipping module? Someone may have posted a fix for this ...
Try to replicate the problem in testing ... I would start by adding something to the basket ... go all the way through to payment then skip back a few steps and go back through ... sometimes this confuses the order totals ... just a thought ...
If you can't replicate ... there are plenty of USPS modules at osCommerce which should go pretty much straight in ... might be worth trying a different one?
I have beat most of the bugs out
Don't forget: If you find any bugs post them in the bug tracker (http://bugtrack.oscmax.com/my_view_page.php)!

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I should add that when I said I have most of the bugs beat out that those were for the most part self inflicted ones from modifications etc that I have done to the store.
I also should have mentioned that this can be recreated sporadically by doing as you said, but not all the time. It seems that I can put something in the cart, go to the end of the precess, click the back button a few times do it over again etc and only have it mess up about once every 100 tries, but of course I get an email from my customer every time it happens on a real order and its always an order thats going over seas and losing them a bundle so I really need to find a fix for this because i am sick of supporting problems that aren't mine if that makes any sense :)
I would have hoped that the USPS module that was included in the oscmax install would just work and if there was some case statement failing that it would have been fixed at some point in time. :)

Jesse,
I suspect the issue maybe due to the value of the order being close to a price break in the shipping charges ... so it triggers due to value ... then when you skip back a few steps it is not resetting the lower shipping cost ... is USPS a by value, weight, size, quantity module?
I will have a look tomorrow if I get a minute ... otherwise I am sure that some people who use USPS more regularily will be able to help you out.

Thanks again for your help, it is a by weight module. I have a really hard time recreating it but her customers sure seem to have no trouble doing so lol... This is one of those things that I don't feel comfortable charging my client to fix as I setup the store for her so it should "work" but I also don't like eating all the time I put into getting this thing to work how it should, so any and all assistance is most definitely appreciated :)

I'm still fighting with this... its really frustrating... seems to be triggered by people using the back button to enter a different coupon code to see which one will save them the most etc etc... any thoughts on how to rectify this? This particular site is eating up a load of my time and I can't charge for it as I need to deliver a site that functions 100% and this one does not, highly irritating.. I need a shipping module that works.

Still fighting with this... Does anyone have a recommendation for a USPS shipping module that just works how it should?
I really need this site to just work like it should, the customer doesn't have a lot of extra $$ laying around to throw at things like this and honestly they shouldn't have to as this shipping function should be a core feature that just works.
I also don't want to throw a ton of my time at it as I already have about double the time into the site compared to what I charged to set it up, so as I said before I just need this thing to work, be done and left to do it's job without hours of babysitting.
thanks in advance

Do you have an URL for this site?
Have you got a repeatable set of steps to reproduce this error?
Are you sure it is the back button?
Is it only when you ship to Germany? Or all European destinations? Have you got your zones etc. set correctly?
Have you tried posting a question at the osCommerce forums to see if anyone else has had this issue?

FYI I see this ocassionally in my cart and (oh damn I just realized I have a 2nd cart that is not functioning since USPS changes jan 1st) in this other cart I manage.
I can not reproduce it either.. did you ever figure it out?
